Film-Making Contest For Kids, Teens


The Montclair Film Festival, in partnership with the Montclair Art Museum and Barista Kids, has launched the second annual Kidz Shortz film-making competition. Registration opened October 15, and submissions will be accepted through February 15, 2013. Winners will be announced on the MFF website on March 1, with the Kidz Shortz Awards Ceremony held on March 7, 2013. The 2011 Kidz Shortz received over 50 submissions from 15 different New Jersey communities.

Kidz Shortz is open to students from any community entering 4th through 12th grade in September 2012. Students may submit a short ?G?-rated film on the theme ?Freedom?The Way I See It?. Films must submitted on DVD and be no longer than 6 minutes in length. A blind jury of filmmaking professionals and educators will determine competition winners based on story, theme, creativity, direction, editing, cinematography and overall filmmaking competence. The awards will be given in the following age groups:

  • Cinemaniacs: grades 4-6
  • Storytellers: grades 7-9
  • Visionaries: grades 10-12

Future Spielbergs can register for the contest through the MFF Web site. Those who sign up before November 9 will have a chance to attend two free workshops on making and finishing a short film
