The Central Bank of Barbados, the Barbados Bar Association and George Walton Payne & Co. are providing lawyers with the opportunity of a lifetime on November 17, 2012.
The three entities are sponsoring, for the first time ever, a one-day international business seminar at the Grande Salle, Tom Adams Financial Centre at 9:30 a.m. The seminar titled ?International Business 101? will help young attorneys to attract business in the international business and financial services sector.
One of the highlights is a presentation by international tax expert on Double Taxation Treaties and the 2012 Tax Lawyer of the Year, Mr. Angelo Nikolakakis, which will focus on how to exploit DTA?s to generate Business.
Mr. Nikolakakis is a partner in the tax group in the Montreal office of Couzin Taylor LLP, and is a Limited Partner of Ernst & Young L.P. He is a member of the Bars of Ontario, Quebec and New York State, and a sessional lecturer on Tax Policy and International Taxation at the Faculty of Law, McGill University, in Montreal. His practice focuses on income tax planning, advising corporate clients on federal international income tax matters. Mr. Nikolakakis is the author of numerous professional articles and other publications, including the Taxation of Foreign Affiliates, as well as a frequent speaker on various topics in corporate and international taxation. He also participates as a member in numerous professional associations, including the Canadian Tax Foundation, the International Fiscal Association, the American Bar Association and the International Bar Association.
Conference Coordinator, Ms. Sadie Dixon, explained that the organizers were honoured to have attracted an attorney with the experience and international exposure of Nikolakakis to help local attorneys better understand international tax law and to create and/or grow their businesses in the area of international and financial services. ?All young attorneys interested in the international business and financial services sector or attorneys seeking new opportunities in this very important sector in Barbados should be in attendance?, she added. Ms. Dixon also noted that it was hoped that this Seminar will be the first of several to enhance the expertise of local attorneys.
